What Problems Exist with Scale Barns?

  • Food Court and Water Court
    • Decreased ADG, FE and ADFI

  • Scale and Gating Costs per pig
  • Potential For Suffocation Incidences

Scale Training Pigs

  • First Week: All gates open in the barn
  • Second Week: Feeder gates shut, one ways up
  • Third Week: 30 days training with one ways down, scale gates switch every two hours, than grow out mode until marketing begins.

Time Schedules

  • Day time scaling

    • Grow out mode day time only- open one feeder gate and lock scale open
  • All day scaling
    • Leave feeder gate open by scale all the time
    • Can get more alarms

Marketing Scaling

  • Monday through Wednesday for the next week
  • Day time schedule
  • Push sort
    • First week of marketing
    • Every other week after that
