Broodmares
Remember there are three reasons to vaccinate mares
- To protect the mare-Rhino/Flu/Tetanus/EEE/WEE/West Nile
- To protect the fetus-Rhino at 5, 7 and 9 months of pregnancy
- To protect the foal to 3 months-Rhino/WEE/EEE/West Nile
Foals
Vaccinate foals for the following reasons
- Early protection—First days of life-Tetanus
- No protection from mother-If mares are unvaccinated West Nile at 1 month
- Replace maternal immunity starting at 3 months-Rhino/WEE/EEE/West Nile/Tetanus
- Protect against disease challenges-Flu starting at 9 months
Yearlings/2 Year Olds
Vaccinate to protect against disease challenge
- Annual vaccines-WEE/EEE/West Nile/Tetanus
- Semi-annual vaccines (every 6 months)-Flu/Rhino
Trail/Low Risk Horses
Adult horses who go to trail rides and a few shows
- Annual vaccines-Rhino/Flu/WEE/EEE/Tetanus/West Nile
Stay at Home Horses
Adult horses who never leave home and others don’t come to visit
- Annual Vaccines-WEE/EEE/Tetanus/West Nile
Always consider annual vaccinations for Rabies, especially if you have children!
