Swine Newsletter 2nd Quarter 2003
Iowa
~ On April 15, 2003, Iowa was granted Stage IV status for Pseudorabies. This designation means:
- Every swine herd in Iowa is now considered negative for Pseudorabies.
- Testing requirements will be relaxed, allowing for greater movement of swine into, out of, and within the state.
- Vaccination will no longer be mandatory but is still highly recommended.
- Surveillance testing will continue throughout the state and is required to maintain this status.
"Iowa will remain vigilant and statewide surveillance must be continued for a period of one year, after which time the Department of Agriculture will apply for Stage V Status, which would declare Iowa Pseudorabies free".
Money has been allocated to pay for diagnostic testing at ISU VDL ~ so if you have any suspicion that the condition you are facing could be PRV, submit tissues/serum to ISU and the USDA will pay for the testing costs. We will continue to issue surveillance test charts as long as funding allows. We still except compliance with these ordered tests. However, there is no funding available for PRV Vaccine.***~~Information from Iowa Dept. of Agriculture~~
Minnesota
~ Minnesota is a Stage IV and does not require any monitor testing. There are no longer any funds available for PRV Vaccine Reimbursement.
