Move cows into the maternity pen for as short a time as possible
Keep sick cows away from the maternity area
Maintain enough bedding so pen stays dry and clean
Adequate ventilation and lighting

Salmonella is a bacteria that can infect the intestines, respiratory tract or cause a systemic (blood borne) infection. Salmonella is spread easily from saliva or feces.
Clinical signs:
Fever (temperature higher than 104 F)
Slow, weak
Dehydration
Sudden down/sick
Diarrhea
Respiratory disease – increased respiratory rate
Treatment:
TMS oral – 15 mL orally twice daily in milk.
Excede – 2 mL intraear
Electrolytes – to all calves scouring, 1-2 times daily.

Calf Does Not Drink Aggressively
Take rectal temperature (normal is 102 degrees or less)
Score feces: 1 = Diarrhea 2 = Normal 3 = Dry/Constipated
Check if the calf is breathing quickly
Check if the calf has a snotty nose
Check if the calf has a swollen navel
Check if the calf has a swollen joint
Record all those findings on the treatment sheet
Treatments:
