Recommendations for Sheep Selection Programs
Sheep producers can improve their flocks by selecting superior replacements from high-producing ewes and culling inferior, low-producing females. Records of previous performance must be used to increase the accuracy of selection and culling decisions. Culling unproductive ewes every year reduces carrying costs for the flock. Regardless of market conditions, unproductive ewes should be removed from the flock to save valuable feed for higher producing ewes. You can generally afford to carry a ewe that produces. When lamb prices are depressed, the need to keep only the productive ewes is even more apparent.

Pre-Breeding
Chlamydia psittaci (Enzootic Abortion) Vaccine
Two wks prebreeding and ½ way through gestation
Deworm Choices:
Anthezole: 15 cc per cwt oral NOT in PREG animals
Panacur: 5 cc per cwt oral
Ivomec: 1 cc per cwt injectable SQ
Levasole: 3 cc per cwt injectable SQ (1/2 of parasites are resistant)
Pre-Lambing
Ewe-P-Bac 6 and 2 weeks pre-lambing
