The Traditional Feeding Program
One pound of milk replacer into a gallon of warm water
Two quarts fed twice/day
What type of growth can we expect on this program?
What do you get from a traditional feeding program?
20-20 Milk Replacer
2088 kcal/day
Maintenance Needs on an 80# calf at 50 degrees = 1440 kcal/day
So that leaves 648 kcal for disease fighting and growth
Under ideal conditions (50 degrees and healthy)
Average Daily Gain 0.66# on milk replacer alone
Why were these p... [More]

Sampling Protocol or Tissue Collection Protocol for Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae isolation and strain characterization by molecular-based techniques
Animals to be sampled will be selected by the veterinarian on the basis of Enzootic Pneumonia clinical signs and/or farm history, regardless of age, physical condition and vaccination status. The best samples are from animals in the early stages of infection, at the onset of clinical signs, preferably from untreated animals.
Since a bronchoalveolar fl... [More]

Isolation of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae field strains and their characterization by molecular-based technique
The objective of this study is to isolate Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae from field samples, which will be then evaluated and compared by molecular-based diagnostic techniques. Results will be analyzed using a commercial software to determine relationships and then compare them with the field epidemiological information.
Besides generating a Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae collection, results form se... [More]
